Apologies to Panini

Several weeks ago I had promised my dear friend Ms. Chaves that I would post a story of Panini's education. I am guilty beyond redemption for keeping my promise as a mere promise.

As I am unable to find enough time to write, what I wish to, that is about how Panini almost missed an education, I decided to surf the net, pilfer a few thoughts of others and plagiarise a few words and piece a write up on that great Indian genius.

I know that I would still be in breach of my promise. Yet, it is a small step forward. Just to show my bona fides ( as we lawyers often say, without meaning it)

Sir Monier-Williams (1819-1899) Orientalist, professor of Sanskrit at Oxford in 1860. He made a lengthy and learned introduction to his monumental work: Sanskrit-English Dictionary. He wrote:

" The Panini grammar reflects the wondrous capacity of the human brain, which till today no other country has been able to produce except India"
