Bonding in world
This week turned out to be rather hectic. While professional pressures took a back seat, personal ones were at the helm. Mom suffered a bout of hypoglycaemia and spent a night at the hospital. So when friday came along, Mouli and I decided that i need a break and so we drove to Mayajal cineplex to watch a movie, a late night one.
As Superthumby and Jawaman had been pretty excited about the Bond Movie, I decided to be " Bond" for a while. Mouli weakly protested that it was not really our style to watch a movie on its day of release. I would not listen. I would rather see the English Bond rather than the tamil or hindi fakes.
Of late, I have been quite a storm catcher. Racing on the East Coast Road with Mouli in incessant rains and storms, to see a movie. Bond was all over my mind. Iwas determined to remeber as much of the movie as possible to write a re-view in this blog.
As the movie started, it was already 11.15 pm and me was drowsy. Bond did not do anything to change my state of alertness. The movie is pretty ordinary. I remembered my words to Superthumby at MI 3- " looks like James Bond sans sex". Casino Royale is MI 3 minus Cruise. He does not even sleep with the bond girls ( thanks to Bharat Censor Board).
I am a fan of Sean Connery and can't think of any one esle as the Bond. While Pierce Brosnan almost changed it. Craig made me miss Sean. I wont call Craig a bad Bond. may be his next one will be better.
Did I imagine it? No, it is real. The new Bond looks straight out of the Comic Books( Ever seen Calvin and Hobbes). yet the film scores a lot of points even over earlier movies in the action scenes. particulary the Jackie Chan- like chase in Madagascar. Mind Boggling. the target ( african) was better than the chaser( bond). Must not miss it. If you are going to watch the movie in a theatre, do not go later than 10 minutes. if you need to do something urgent, you can always leave after that scene which ends with a real gun fight ( like Die hard) at an embassy of Timbaktoo. You wont miss anything much. At the end, you have a feeling like you watched the trailer of a tv serial on THE BOND.
As we came out, Mouli asked, " When is the re-view due?"
I shouted, " No. Never........ er..er. perhaps tomorrow"
I had by then realised that RE- VIEW did not ALWAYS mean seeing it once again!
